I have always enjoyed everything from the Marvel movie series. Black Widow was no exception. There were several stalls on the release date due to the pandemic.
The term Black Widow actually refers to a term used for a group of Russian female assassins trained with biochemical mind control.
Natasha Romanoff was one of these widows that was trained in The Red Room along with her surrogate sister Yelena Bulova. Her surrogate father was Alexei Shostakov, a super soldier known as The Red Guardian while her surrogate mother Melina Vostakov was a black widow as well as a biochemist. They live happily in Ohio as a sleeper cell until Alexei is called to destroy S.H.I.E.L.D property, afterwich they immediately leave for Cuba, and Alexei is immediately put in jail in Siberia, the daughters are put in The Red Room to be trained and the mother has a farm outside St. Petersburg.
The girls become assassins that are biochemically engineered to be obedient. Natasha and Yelena happen upon the antidote and use it and go on a mission to administer the antidote to the other widows and to find the Red Room and destroy it. In order to find the Red Room, Yelena and Natasha need to free their father and find their mother who helped to make the serum and the antidote.
The film really begins soon after Captain America:Civil War as Natasha is a fugitive in violation of the Sokovia Accords. Secretary Ross believes he has Romanoff trapped in an abandoned building. But she escapes and flees to Norway.
Yelena has turned rogue and learned of the antidote gas which neutralizes the mind-control agent from The Red Room. She sends the antidote to The Avengers hoping they will free the other Widows. Natasha is attacked by a Widow known as Taskmaster that is Dreykov's daughter. Dreykov created The Red Room whom Romanoff supposedly killed in the beginning of The Avengers; it was her final task of loyalty in becoming an Avenger. She finds the vials of red antidote in her car after surviving the attack and realizes the vials came from her sister Yelena.
She finds her sister and Yelena tells her that The Red Room is still active. They both realize that they have to free their father from the Russian prison and find Melina in order to find The Red Room once and for all. They free Alexei and find their mother who is still working on improving the mind-control agents by using pigs. They are ambushed as Melina contacted Dreykov and taken by his agents. En route to The Red Room, Romanoff is able to convince Melina to help them destroy The Red Room and Dreykov and distribute the antidote to any agents in training there.
There is a lot of action involved with killing Dreykov and freeing the Widows in training. The Taskmaster is freed as well. Yelena takes the antidote vials in order to free the other Widows in the world.
A few weeks after Natasha Romanoff's death in Infinity War, Bulova's handler Valentina Allegra de Fontaine blames Natasha's death on Hawkeye Clint Barton and informs Yelena that eliminating Barton is Yelena's next job.
This was a great film and if I remember correctly Scarlett Johansson was promised a film exclusively for Natasha Romanoff The Black Widow since first Avengers film in 2012. Hopefully, the possibility of any sequels hasn't been screwed up by the lawsuit Johansson filed with Disney over the Premier Access release on Disney+.
