The latest so-called bombshell from The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Harry and Meghan, was made to shed a light on the relationship and lifestyle of the couple since they first met, as well as to how they have 'weathered the storm' of being in the public eye.
They met online thru Instagram where a friend of Meghan Markle's heard that 'Prince Haz' was 'dying to meet her'. 'Her' being Meghan Markle, an actress on the USA Network legal drama called 'Suits'. So she looked him up on Instagram, to see what he would put up about what he likes on his Instagram page. And then they texted. And in July of 2016, Meghan was on holiday from filming her show and decided to go to Europe and ended up being in London for Wimbledon. And Harry asked her out. It was all downhill from there.
And Harry couldn't help noticing how similar Meghan was to his mum, Princess Diana. Her empathy, her compassion, her confidence, he saw all of that in Meghan. By that time, he knew he was in love, as was Meghan. And Meghan wanted so much for it to work out. But it was a long distance relationship, Meghan lived and worked in Canada for the show 'Suits', where Harry was obviously in England as a member of the royal family.
And then they went to Africa together, as Harry had been going since he was 18, as a means to keep up with his mother's charities, and Meghan had time off from her work schedule in Toronto. They knew if they were going to have this relationship work, they needed to really know each other before the press got involved. And it worked out well.
And the couple married in 2018, gaining the titles The Duke and Duchess of Sussex. It all seemed to be going very well. Except for the media attention for Meghan, which she was fine with initially. However, Meghan was initially too engaging than normal royals. Being a fairly successful Hollywood actress, she learned to 'make the best of it' when it comes to dealing with the press but it's definitely not the way to deal with it for the royal family.
It actually seems to me that this is where Harry and Meghan's life as royals seems to mirror Harry's mother's time as a member of the royal family because Harry seemed to notice that the other royals actually seemed jealous of the attention Meghan was getting from the media. If anyone has read Princess Diana's autobiography by Andrew Morton, they would know that Prince Charles reportedly became jealous of his wife and the media attention she always received.
Eventually, it all became to much for the Sussexes' and they considered 'stepping away' from being working royals in 2020. Harry had discussed it with his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II many times before and how hard it was for both of them to deal with the scrutiny of the media and the other royals, and she understood. But Harry still wanted Meghan to hear what the Queen had to say and they made an appointment the following week to talk with the Queen personally. But the Queen's aide ran an interference just days before the scheduled meeting, saying they were not allowed to see the Queen.
So they waited, and waited for a chance to reschedule which they tried for and never came. This is when Harry took the initiative to publicly announce they were stepping down as actively working royals. Now Harry has a meeting with his father, his brother William, the Duke of Cambridge, and his grandmother, the Queen. William screams at Harry, and his father says things that aren't true, while his grandmother is mostly silent. Harry realizes there is no nicely 'stepping away' from this. There is just gone, done , finished.
So they left for Vancouver Island, British Columbia in Canada where Meghan has a miscarriage their first night there. And Meghan is still dealing with suing British tabloids for publishing the personal letter to her father, which she eventually won.
But since they moved away from England, they have had a second child Lilibet, a girl, and moved quietly to Los Angeles to a house given to them by good friend Tyler Perry, who was very happy to help his friend Meghan out as there were supposed death threats from British tabloids, who had turned on Meghan since they moved from England.
This was a 6 part series for Netflix from the Sussexes' and supposedly there is more to come from them but on a less personal note. I wish Harry and Meghan the best. They certainly went thru hell to get this far. Harry and Meghan have requested an apology from the remaining royal family since the airing of this docuseries. I wouldn't hold your breath to get one, Harry but I remain hopeful for you. Buckingham Palace reiterated only to say it will not comment on the documentary.
